Turmeric ginger benefits for health
The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Turmeric has been shown in studies to effectively reduce body inflammation. It can also assist in joint health and mobility, support the cardiovascular system and encourage healthy cholesterol levels. It also supports metabolism, can assist in reducing stress levels and symptoms of bloating.
Curcumin absorption can be assisted by consuming it with black pepper. So, add a little black pepper to your latte to get the most benefits from it!
Ginger is also an anti-inflammatory and can help to settle an upset stomach. It may also support cardiovascular health and is a powerful antioxidant. Aside from the added health benefits, consuming your turmeric latte with fresh or dried ginger also adds a delicious spice flavour!
What does turmeric taste like
Powdered turmeric is vibrant and yellow in colour. Raw turmeric looks very similar to a ginger root and has brown, papery skin with a bright orange centre.
Turmeric is mildly aromatic has an earthy taste with a hint of ginger. On its own, it is quite pungent and bitter in taste, but used with other ingredients it lends a mild spice flavour which is commonly used to enhance curries, mustard and relish.
What does a turmeric latte taste like?
Turmeric lattes have a creamy base, with a spiced flavour similar in taste to a chai latte. Honey (or another sweetener) is required, as the spices are quite bitter without it.
Tips for making turmeric latte
- This recipe uses almond milk, however any type of milk can be used.
- If the turmeric latte is left to sit before consuming, some sediment will settle at the bottom of the cup. Use a spoon to stir before drinking.
- To help reduce sediment, use a stick blending while the latte is cooking. This will blend the ingredients together and also create a little foam on top, similar to a latte.
- Add a little coconut oil for extra good fats.
- Try adding a pinch of cardamom for extra flavour!
- The yellow colouring in turmeric will stain just about any surface it touches! Be mindful of white bench tops and clothing. Clean any spills immediately with soap and water.
